Pla de Bages is a small area inland of Barcelona. Prior to the Phylloxera plague, Pla de Bages was one of the principal winemaking areas in Catalunya. It gained D.O. status in 1995, and currently has seven registered cellars producing bottled wines, the leading producer in the area is Masies d'Avinyó, bottling wines under the Abadal label.

Notes: Pla de Bages in the centre of Catalunya has a higher temperature difference between winter and summer than the coastal areas. Likewise it has a low relative humidity. The wines are similar to those of the Penedès, although yields are slightly lower due to the characteristics of soil and climate. Average altitude of the vineyards is slightly higher than other areas, around 400m above sea level.
