
This is the old Falset subzone, now expanded and consolidated as a region in it's own right. The climate here is very similar to the neighbouring Priorat, making the main distinguishing feature between the two areas the llicorella soil that Priorat has. Nonetheless, this is currently the area to watch in Catalonia. A number of Priorat producers have land here (Capafons Ossó, Rene Barbier has a joint venture here, Sara Pérez of Mas Martinet also produces a wine here), as well as the Capçanes cooperative and the Anguera brothers who've been making excellent wines here for a number of years. The Masroig cooperative is the most recent cooperative to follow Capçanes' lead, with two very competitive wines. Excellent wines, and the prices aren't silly yet!
