| Joan d'Anguera was one of the first estates in Catalonia to plant Syrah, back in the early eighties. The cellar made a name for itself making young unoaked wines until the new Syrah and Cabernet vineyards were sufficiently old for the quality required for an oak-aged wine. For my money the two Anguera brothers, Joan and Josep are making some of the most exciting wines in the region. Bugader 2004, in one of the best vintages of recent years underlines both their skill, and the heights Syrah can achieve in this area.
