One of the most important treatments of the year is for cochylis, otherwise known as the totrix moth, or rather
more fondly, the "cuc del raim" - the grape worm. The larva of
this moth can cause havoc in the vineyards, and the farmers spray against
it on a strict schedule. The local oenologists monitor the cycle of the
moth, and decide on the most appropriate days to spray against it. In Aiguamúrcia,
they decided to start on the lower altitude vineyards on July 2nd, progressing
to the higher areas on the 4th and 5th.

Although the products used nowadays are progressively less toxic, (and
spraying on the correct days requires a less aggressive treatment) a protective
mask is in order to avoid inhaling the pesticide, particularly when using
the ventilator fan on the back of the tank.

The fan helps pulverise the liquid as it is squirted out on both sides of the tank. Sergi has adjusted the height
of the nozzles to ensure the jet is at just the right height to spray the
grapes, without wasting any on the foliage.
