Can Feixes (pronounced approximately fay-shuss) is one of the oldest estates in the Penedès. Ceded to the Feixes family in 1400 by the Baron of Cabrera it comprises 75 hectares of vineyards surrounding the manor house. In Catalan it is common for estates or rural houses to be known as "Can" something. Literally it means "The house of..." although it usually refers to the historical owner of the house. Thus Can Feixes is still known as such even though the Feixes family line ended in 1900 and since then could really be called "Can Huguet".
Year in year out, this wine gives excellent value for money. Drunk young it has fairly firm tannins, but given a little time in the bottle, these round out nicely, stop dominating and play the supporting role to the warm black fruit characters.
